You may encounter this error on other versions of Windows as well but I have experienced it in Windows Server 2008 R2. Here's how you can resolve the error. Solution

1. Go to Control Panel -> System and Security -> System.
2. In the Windows Activation section click Change product key.
3. Enter your MSDN Multiple Activation Key (MAK) and click OK.
4. You should now be able to activate your product.
